Description
At the heart of a business wargame is the simulation of a situation in which multiple parties are involved. Each of these parties adopts the perspective view and action of a specific stakeholder of a situation in the focus of investigation.
Each game party receives a game entry that corresponds to the nature of the particular stakeholder or would very probably correspond to it. In a turn-based game, you now try to reach this entry. The boundaries between a wargame and a role play, a scenario analysis or a simulation game are fluid.
The course of the game is basically not predictable due to the dynamics. The agile moves and decisions of the individual players influence the course of the game. In a subsequent analysis, this characteristic trait makes it possible to understand the mechanisms of action in the situation under investigation. The realistic interpretation of the roles by the players is conducive to this.
Consequently, the focus of a wargame lies in the analysis of moves and game strategies that can be discussed together within the framework of technology. The incentive to win the wargame as a participating player is beneficial for the analysis and recognition of cause-effect relationships and action-reaction patterns, but victory in the business wargame is not the primary goal of the game.
